The Fateful Jaw Surgery Day

I wanted to share my jaw surgery day experience at the hospital. It was a really positive experience and I hope you all go through one like me. It's important to not be nervous before the surgery and to stay positive!

Short Biography of the Jaw Surgery Day:

I woke up this morning in a daze because I fell asleep at 2:30am and I have to be at the hospital by 10:30am. Time just flew by so fast and before I knew it I had to get ready to go Sharp's Outpatient Pavilion for my upper jaw surgery. The surgery was scheduled at 12:00pm and should last about 1-2 hours according to my surgeon. I was really glad both my sisters came down to help me through the whole process. I couldn't have been more lucky to have them there with me. One of my sisters is a dentist so you really can't get better than that when it comes to support for an oral surgery. They kept mentioning how they just can't wait to see me when I am fully recovered from the procedure to see my new look.

I got to the hospital and then they took me to the back so that I could my gown on and they got my vitals. The nurse who walked in was making fun of my gown. I told her I wanted to keep it and that I will probably use it as a Halloween costume one day. My sister was in the room the whole time keeping me company and was going over the recovery she had when she had a rhinoplasty procedure done (nose job). She shared a whole bunch of stories and it made me more comfortable about going through jaw surgery.

The jaw surgery was delayed by 30 minutes so it actually started at 12:30 pm instead. I got to meet my nurse and anesthesiologist. They were both so kind to me. I couldn't have asked for a better environment before my surgery. I had been called in finally to go to the OR with my nurse. She was telling me that I will be getting some tequila shots to get me to fall asleep. I told her that I am still 20 years old which makes me underage. Of course, I knew that she was talking about the anesthesia the whole time so it was really funny going into the OR and joking back and forth about how my first experience with tequila will be in the hospital.  It appeared to be an inside joke that both the nurse and the anesthesiologist were in on. I love people with a sense of humor because it makes them so much more easy to be around. It seemed like all of the staff at Sharp could have actually been part the cast of Scrubs.
